2012 looks like it’s going to be the year of Carrie Underwood! Since making her mark in the high stakes world of American Idol where she rose to the top of a field of over 100,000 performers who auditioned for the fourth season and sang her way past 24 contestants to the exciting final where she edged Bo Brice for the crown, Carrie Underwood has proven her talent time and time again. Underwood went on to win five Grammys, three Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Best Female Vocalist awards and was the first female artist to be named the Academy of Country Music’s prestigious Entertainer of the Year two years in a row! She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry at the tender age of 25 and is often cited as the most successful of a very competitive bunch of former Idol champions.
While fellow Idol winner Scotty McCreery is appearing on 2012 Brad Paisley tour dates, Underwood has been invited to headline the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, Tennessee, the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, and the Bayou Country Superfest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Having placed in Rolling Stone’s 2011 Queen of Pop competition as the only other country singer besides the hybrid country/pop star Taylor Swift (unless you count Miley Cyrus), in only a few short years, Underwood has stormed the industry and is set to have the kind of career longevity reserved for such country legends as Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. With recent duets alongside Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder and a headlining spot at the iHeart Music Festival alongside Jay Z and Lady GaGa, 2012 might be the year Carrie Underwood crosses over. Look out!

Paisley will perform his new single, “Then,” for the first time on national television. The single is from his forthcoming album, American Saturday Night. In addition, Travis and Underwood will perform a duet of “I Told You So,” which Travis wrote. His version reached No. 1 on the country charts in 1988. Underwood’s solo version is her current single. A new studio duet version of “I Told You So” will be available digitally the next day. American Idol contestants will select and perform songs popularized by Grand Ole Opry members on the episodes airing Tuesday and Wednesday (March 17-18). Joining the mass exodus of celebrities leaving Los Angeles post-Oscars, Carrie Underwood was spotted heading for the security checkpoint at LAX International Airport yesterday (February 23) afternoon.
The “Jesus, Take the Wheel” songstress looked to be having a good time as she prepared to depart, smiling as she tried to manage her carry-on luggage.
The night before, Carrie was definitely one of the main attractions, fashion-wise, as she arrived at the 2009 Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Award Viewing Party in a fabulous white one-shoulder dress with a prom-style updo.
Held at the Pacific Design Center in Hollywood, the Elton John shindig was well-attended by Carrie’s “American Idol” friends including Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell.
Simon Cowell may be TV’s Mr Nasty, but American Idol fourth season winner Carrie Underwood was full of praise for the British judge.
“I think Simon has actually got a wee bit nicer over the past couple of years,” she said, speaking at the launch of the American Idol Experience attraction at Disneyworld, Florida.
“He’s always been pretty nice to me and I think it’s really good that somebody will give you a dose of reality even if it might be said in a harsh manner. I can think of nicer ways to say things than he tells them, but it’s nice that he’s got a very strong opinion and he does voice it.”
Last year’s American Idol winner, David Cook was also full of praise for the critical Brit.
“The first couple of weeks I was on the show, Simon and I did not see eye to eye,” he revealed.
“As soon as I took a step back and realised that everything he said was constructive, as mean as it might be, we got along fine. So if anybody asks me who my favourite judge is, I’m always going to say Simon.”
