Feb. 11, 2009 — Carrie Underwood rather famously got introduced to the public through FOX-TV’s “American Idol,” and she’s expected to join former contestants from several different seasons on Thursday when Disney opens a new “Idol” attraction in Florida.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios are holding the premiere for the new American Idol Experience that night, and The Orlando Sentinel predicts at least 20 “Idol” alumni will make it to the event. She’ll likely be joined by David Cook, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks, David Archuleta, Bo Bice and Justin Guarini, as well as perennial “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest.

The American Idol Experience provides theme-park visitors with a singing competition, and it supposedly gives a boost to the best participants, putting them at the front of the line for “American Idol” auditions in the future.

“Idol” was in the background at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, where Carrie performed “Last Name” and won an award for the song. In addition, former “Idol” competitor Jennifer Hudson delivered an emotional performance on the show and took home Best R&B Album for her self-titled debut.

Three of Jennifer’s relatives were killed shortly after the release of her album, and that’s provided a tragic backdrop as she slowly makes her way back into the spotlight.

“I think it was very healing,” Carrie told reporters at the Staples Center after Jennifer sang. “She’s handled herself so wonderfully with all the media attention on her family and her personal stuff that she’s dealing with, but I think she’s handled herself with grace.”

“It’s so amazing to see her get on stage and have that healing process and you see it right in front of you,” Carrie added. “I hope that continues, and I hope that she can find peace.”

Outside of her appearance at the American Idol Experience opening, Carrie plans to find a little peace for herself, now that her Carnival Ride Tour has come to a close.

She expects to spend much of the next few months at home “so I can sleep in my own bed and do some more writing.”
